In some commercial correspondence, these types of containers are often referred to as “dry van” or “standard.” However, the term “general purpose” is more commonly used. Internationally, their external dimensions are fixed in terms of length and width, but their heights may vary. They have two doors, with only one opening outward. When the container doors are closed, they are watertight and airtight. The material used in container manufacturing is chosen based on both carrying capacity and volume considerations, with steel and aluminum being commonly used. Steel containers have a lower loading capacity because steel is heavier.
20′ OT / 40′ OT
Carrying the length and width dimensions of a typical general-purpose container, with one key difference: it lacks a “fixed top.” Used in situations where loads are too long/wide to fit through the door and can only be loaded from the top using a crane or similar equipment. Often used for transporting machinery, marble slabs, aluminum profiles, etc. Open-top containers are frequently used for loads that protrude from the top. They are tightly covered with a tarpaulin after loading. The base is slightly thicker due to its ability to carry heavy loads, and it is classified as special equipment, usually incurring a surcharge on the freight.
20′ Flat Rack / 40′ Flat Rack / 40′ Collapsible Flat Rack
Sometimes simply referred to as “flat.” This type of container has no sides or top. Sometimes both ends can be removed. Due to its suitability for loading goods from both sides and the top, a significant surcharge is often added to the freight. The container’s base is very thick.
40′ High Cube / 45′ High Cube
These containers are used for transporting relatively light but high-volume goods. Their height is 30 cm more than a standard 40′ container.
40′ Reefer / 40′ High Cube Reefer / 45′ High Cube Reefer (Reefer Container Transportation)
Used in reefer container transportation services, these containers are equipped with a refrigeration unit powered by electricity or a diesel engine. They are used for transporting goods, especially food products, in a temperature-controlled environment.
