**Natural disasters are challenging experiences that unexpectedly affect human life, causing pain, fear, and losses. Unfortunately, due to the geological structure of our country, Turkey is located in a position where such disasters can frequently occur. Therefore, having knowledge and experience in disaster logistics is crucial. It plays a significant role in meeting the needs of people in affected areas, providing necessary assistance, and managing the crisis with minimal additional damage in extraordinary situations.

Disaster logistics involves the planning, implementation, and control of all activities related to the flow of items, health-food and consumable materials, support teams, information, and capital from the source (suppliers or donors) to the end-users (beneficiaries) in areas where natural disasters occur.

Disaster logistics always operates in an environment filled with uncertainty, temporariness, and variables, so being prepared is as important as being flexible. The ultimate goal in this task is to alleviate the suffering of vulnerable individuals in affected areas as quickly as possible, in the most effective, fast, efficient, and cost-effective manner. We can examine disaster logistics in three main stages:

1. **Pre-Disaster Preparation:**
– This stage is where preparation can be made for creating the greatest difference, as the additional difficulties and stress of the emergency situation have not yet emerged.
– Necessary planning is carried out with great precision, and procurement and storage processes take place based on this planning.
– In the event of a potential disaster, strategic storage areas that are easily accessible for basic necessities are selected at strategic points.
– The aim is to ensure that the right quantity and quality of materials reach the right people at the right time and place during the chaos where uncertainties arise. This requires real measurements, effective strategic decision-making, and regular checks.

2. **Intervention During the Disaster:**
– In this stage, a situation assessment is conducted first, and needs are identified accordingly.
– Based on the information from the pioneer teams in the disaster area, once the requested materials are determined, action is taken to obtain these materials.
– Not only the needs but also the assessment of transport routes necessary for transportation is made at this stage. Tracking whether the ports, highways, airports, and railways in the region have been damaged by the disaster can be critical.
– Factors such as the accessibility of aid organizations’ storage areas, the conditions of depots, and sometimes customs procedures for aid materials coming from other countries may need to be managed in this stage.
– Providing all kinds of support to aid teams is the primary priority in all processes at this stage.

3. **Post-Disaster Activities:**
– Post-disaster activities largely consist of collection, maintenance, reporting, and evaluation processes.
– As intervention teams in the disaster area give way to maintenance, repair, and collection teams, accurate and effective reporting of the situation is crucial for the preparation stage of subsequent disasters.

Disaster logistics is an operation type that requires managing many additional difficulties compared to standard logistics practices. The structures of aid organizations and rules that different stakeholders must adhere to, along with disruptions in both physical and technological infrastructures during disasters, are among the factors that complicate these processes. The logic applied in the management of extraordinary situations in supply chain logistics can be used for disaster logistics as well. Since each disaster requires significantly different solutions from the others, continuous work in this regard, regular risk assessment, close monitoring of innovations and technologies, and adapting plans with flexibility remain of utmost importance.**
